Using they/them if you dont know an employees pronouns? [N/A]

We had a new hire start who is noticeably a trans woman (not to be rude, I just don’t know another way to put it). During orientation I had referred to them as ‘they’ because I didn’t know if she used she/her pronouns. She sent me a private chat during the meeting confirming she uses she/her and I confirmed verbally that I got her message and thank you (no one else in the meeting knew what we were talking about) and she smiled and gave a thumbs up in the camera.

Was this appropriate for me to do on this situation? I want to ensure that I am mindful if this situation were to happen again. I may have to look and see if their HRIS profiles have the capability to list pronouns.
