I am the first and only HR employee at a small construction company and started last week. There are about 10 people in office at a time but the company is about 30 people total. Let’s just say the company is run by Marines and people they know and their language is… interesting. General cursing really isn’t an issue to me, but they constantly use “gay” as an insult and the r-word. The CEO and other execs are the worst offenders, so I’m not sure what to do about this situation. I mean, how effective could I really be as the only HR person at this company and the only one pushing back? I’m worried if I were to say something they just wouldn’t want to talk to me about anything moving forward, making every other facet of my job more difficult.
