I’ve been in HR for 5 years! A few months ago, I left my remote role in HR Operations at an organization (automotive industry) of 20K employees. It was a stressful job and I was starting to experience burnout. The workload was heavy and there was too much handholding and babysitting of employees who refused to do things themselves, even though they were well capable to. There was a lot of pushback from senior leadership whenever I wanted to make processes more efficient. There were limited growth opportunities and my compensation only increased $10K from $63K to $73K after being with the company for 4 years, despite receiving “exceeding expectations” and even “far exceeding expectations” in my annual performance reviews. I began to believe that this was just how life would be working in HR.
Until I managed to land a new remote role in HR Ops. It’s been three months and I just feel so refreshed now. It’s a much smaller tech company of 700 employees. It’s a global company! Senior leadership actually listens and considers my feedback about the ways we could improve our processes. Employees are a lot more self-sufficient because we provide them with all the necessary information and tools. And most of all, the growth opportunities here are amazing. My coworker went from $75K to $130K after being with the company for 4 years, and is in a lead position.
