I've been in HR for 12 years, been an HRBP for the last 6 years. Over the last 6 months, while reporting to a new manager (exec level), I have lost my confidence in my ability to do my job. I question myself on routine things, type and re-read emails multiple times, and feel as though I am always missing something, or that the work I do is not good enough.
I attribute this change to the new manager's communication style. Feedback is typically given this way:
-This is how you should coach T, help them understand the retention risk of X,Y, Z options. To which I explain that I've already done that, on one or more occasions.
-What was your process? Why didn't you do these other things/why did you do it that way?
I'm open to feedback, and know there is always opportunity to continue to learn and get better. I am actively incorporating their feedback into my work as it fits.
I have anxiety when I'm in a meeting with them and can feel the stress in my body. I second guess what I am going to say in a meeing they are present in, I'm constantly thinking about work and I don't always sleep well. I've lost my appetite.
It's hard to build up my confidence when I feel like my every action is being judged as less than ideal for someone in my position with my experience.
Has anyone else dealt with this and what helped you?
