My boss is going to make me lose my mind. We’ve never required documentation, asked for relationship, nothing. We just approve their 5 days bereavement. Unpaid too so who cares. A new hire requested a day off. So I approve. Now my boss is like “ask for documentation,” “confirm relationship,” etc. technically this employee isn’t even eligible since ca law 30 days BUT WE NEVER ENFORCE ANY OF THIS. Now it’s a problem??? Of course I’m going to get blamed for approving it too. F this job sometimes.
